Polaris crew member performs “Star Wars” song from space with Venezuelan band (VIDEO)

Polaris mission specialist Dawn Sarah Gillis Saga joins in from outer space to enact a theme from the movieStar Wars', In it he played the violin and accompanied various orchestras and groups from different parts of the planet Venezuela Project El Sistema.

In a video released by the Polaris program this Friday titled 'Harmony of Resilience', Gillis, a classically trained violinist who is also responsible for astronaut training aboard SpaceX, co-ordinates the song's interpretation with the orchestra. “By bringing together talent from around the world, this performance symbolizes unity and hope, highlighting the resilience and potential of children around the world,” Gillis said in the introduction to a video recorded in orbit from SpaceX's Dragon capsule.

Titled 'Ray's Theme', the song was penned by renowned composer John Williams and was part of the soundtrack of the 2015 film 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'.

The video was released after Gillis, 30, and the mission commander, billionaire Jared Isaacman, made history on Thursday by completing the first private spacewalk, about 700 kilometers (435 miles) from Earth.

Already, Gillis and her crewmate Anna Menon, when they participated in the Hubble deployment in 1990, surpassed the mark of 621 kilometers achieved by NASA astronaut Kathryn Sullivan, becoming the women's farthest distance from Earth.

The Polaris Dawn mission, which took off from Cape Canaveral (Florida) on Tuesday, marked another milestone on Wednesday at 1,400 kilometers from Earth, the most manned mission since the Apollo missions 50 years ago.

The crew, led by pilot Scott Poteet, will spend five days in orbit carrying out a series of scientific experiments for an undisclosed amount and raising funds for the Children's Hospital. St. Jude. EFE
