The President, Gustavo Petro, announced this Wednesday afternoon, November 22, that Danilo Rueda, until a few hours ago the High Commissioner for Peace and the main leader of the government, wants to engage in a policy of ‘Total Peace’ to promote rapprochement with armed groups.
Rueda’s replacement will be Otty Patiño, a former member of M-19 who has so far been the government’s chief negotiator in ongoing talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrillas. “The peace processes in the country will be driven by Otti Patino and I thank Danilo for all his great efforts,” The President wrote Through his X account, formerly Twitter.
Reactions to Danilo Ruta’s exit
After the surprise announcement by the Supreme President, various reactions were raised through social networks, especially celebrating the departure of the current High Commissioner for Peace.
Senator of the Center for Democracy, María Fernanda Cabal, demanded that the official clarify some of the complaints made about the General Force. “Before Danilo Rueda leaves, let him explain to the country the complaints about the secret agreements to remove the general force from El Platado, Cauca” wrote
For his part, Councilor-elect, Daniel Briseno, assured that the appointment was one of the worst the President has ever made. “An appointment of such a questionable, shady and sinister character This was one of the worst mistakes of Gustavo Pedro’s government. “The country still doesn’t know the whole truth about the La Picota Agreement”He insisted.
Likewise, Congresswoman Carolina Arpelez called Rueda’s tenure “unsustainable” and pointed to him as one of those responsible for the “power” armed groups have gained in parts of the national territory.
“He had the ability to spend $17 million on daily travel by private plane and helicopter, but he couldn’t commit to $1.2 billion to implement the Havana Peace Accords.” He questioned.
Additionally, Congressman Oti strongly supported Patino, expressing his full confidence that peacebuilding in Colombia is in good hands.
