Princess of Wales Says She Has Cancer; in chemotherapy

Catherine, Princess of Wales, revealed on Friday that she has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.

After weeks of speculation on social media about his whereabouts and condition since he was hospitalized in January for unspecified stomach surgery, his condition was revealed in a video message recorded Wednesday and broadcast Friday.

Kate (Catalina) asked for “time, space and privacy” while undergoing treatment for an unspecified type of cancer.

“I'm fine,” he said. “I get stronger every day by focusing on the things that help me heal.”

Kate, 42, has not been seen in public since Christmas this week until a video emerged of her walking from a farm shop in Windsor with her husband Prince William, heir to the throne.

Kensington Palace gave few details about Kate's condition, saying it was not cancer-related, the surgery was successful, and if she recovers, the princess will stay out of public duties until April.

The news comes as another shock to the royal family since it was announced last month that King Charles III was being treated for an unspecified type of cancer.

Charles, 75, has retired from public work while undergoing cancer treatment, although he often appears in photographs at meetings with government officials and dignitaries and has even been seen attending church.

Kate, on the other hand, has been out of sight, leading to weeks of speculation and rumours. After unsuccessful attempts to quell the rumors by publishing a photo of her surrounded by her three smiling children on Mother's Day in the United Kingdom, the Associated Press and other news outlets retracted the image.

Kate released a statement the next day, admitting she wanted to “experiment with editing” and apologized for “any confusion” the photo may have caused. But that did little to quell speculation.

Footage published by The Sun and TMZ that appeared to show Kate and William shopping also sparked new rumours, with some armchair sleuths refusing to believe the video showed Kate.

Earlier this week, Britain's privacy watchdog said it was investigating a report that staff at the private London hospital where he was treated tried to spy on his medical records while he was a patient for abdominal surgery.

The former Kate Middleton, who married William in a fairytale wedding in 2011, has boosted the popularity and glamor of the British monarchy around the world since Princess Diana.

The princess was the eldest of three siblings, raised in an affluent neighborhood in Berkshire, west of London. The Middletons do not have an aristocratic background and the British press often refer to Kate as a “commoner” who married into a royal family.

Kate attended Marlborough College, a private girls' school, and then the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where she met William in 2001. Originally friends and housemates, their relationship went public in 2004 when they were photographed together on a ski holiday in Switzerland. .
