Public space: “We recorded 15 cases and 16 complaints of violations of the right to freedom of expression”

Espacio Público presents a partial report on the cases and violations of the right to freedom of expression, during the presidential elections of Sunday, July 28.

“We have registered 15 cases and 16 complaints related to violations of the right to freedom of expression until 1pm on July 28,” said the NGO, which works to promote and defend freedom of expression, the right to information and social responsibility in the media.

He also pointed out that election day was marked by the ban on press and media workers from entering polling stations.

Espacio Publico explained that “in nine cases the victims were journalists, in four media outlets, two individuals, two photojournalists and a photographer, in addition to the arrest of two media professionals and citizens.”

“Access was blocked, in most cases, even though journalists had official accreditation from the National Electoral Council (CNE); the restrictions were implemented by officials and members of polling stations accredited by the CNE.”
