The Archdiocese of St Pere will give up the use of the old Center Catòlic free of charge for 99 years
Next Monday, the Reus City Council, the Tarragona Provincial Council and the Priory Diocese of Saint Perry-Apostol will sign an agreement for the relocation of the old Católica Center that will promote the rehabilitation and maintenance of the Parvium Theatre. The budget for the works to rehabilitate the building and modernize the new equipment will be 2,479,324.66 euros, with core funding from the Town Hall, which will allocate 2,122,475 euros. The departments desire is for the works to be tendered during the second half of 2023 to be completed at the beginning of 2025. The agreement between the departments also provides for the transfer of equipment for a period of 99 years and that the Bravium Association can move into headquarters.
The mayor of Reus, Carles Pellicer, stated on Monday that it is a “historic” agreement that will give “a new impetus to the cultural capital” of the city, offering “more culture, public and quality, in line with the goals already laid down in the municipality’s action plan”. Vice Mayor Ríos and Tarragona Provincial Council President, Noemi Laurado, took a similar position. For his part, Prior Joan Anton Seydoux confirmed that they would continue to work within the framework of “common bridges” to be built by both “necessary to continue progress”.
The works will be carried out in the theatre, in a room on the first floor, which will be accessible to the public for cultural, social or similar purposes, and which will be shared between the City Council and the First. Regarding the agenda, before the end of the year, the city council plans to commission the drafting of the initial draft of the works. Thus, the drafting of the executive project will be commissioned so that its tendering can proceed before the first half of 2023. During the second half of 2023, it is planned to tender and start the works.
Upon completion of the works and during the full validity of the Surface Right – which has been established for 99 years – the space will be used for theatrical activities or other manifestations of the performing arts. Expectations indicate that the new facility could start operating at the beginning of 2025. A monitoring committee will also be established to ensure the implementation of the agreement and also for the future operation of the new space, in which there will be representatives from all parties.
Finally, the City of Reus, given the history and activity of other performing arts events developed by the Associació Bravium Artístic i Cultural, will give way in a stable and continuous way to the headquarters and activity of this entity within the rehabilitated theater, the use of which will be regulated by a specific agreement between the parties.
