Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, has apologized for the “confusion” caused by editing a family photo released by the palace of Kate and her children, in a move intended to quell concern and speculation about the member's health. The British Royal Family, but who had it? opposite effect.

Several news organizations that initially published the photo removed the image due to concerns about digital manipulation. The photo, released Sunday by the couple's office at Kensington Palace to mark Mother's Day in Britain, is the first official photo of Kate, 42.

The withdrawal caused Internet rumors, already rampant due to Kate's surgery and recovery. A public relations disaster is further proof of that The royal family's long-standing mantra of “never complain, never explain” is impossible in an era of social media.

In a social media post, Kate said on Monday “Like many amateur photographers, I occasionally experiment with editing.” “I want to apologize for the confusion caused by the family photo we shared yesterday,” he added.

In the past, the palace has released several family snapshots of Kate, showing her and her husband Crown Prince William with their children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

The latest photo was taken by William, Kensington Palace said. In an accompanying message, Kate said: “Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the past two months. Happy Mother's Day to all of you.”

Although there is no indication that the photo is fake, AP It retracted its publication because a closer inspection revealed that the image was manipulated in a way that did not meet the news agency's photographic standards. For example, there was an inconsistency in aligning Princess Charlotte's left arm with the sleeve of her sweater.

This was announced by Kensington Palace I will not post the original unedited photo. While Kate's statement provided some clarity, it doesn't seem to have helped stem the swirl of rumors that accelerated during her absence from public events.

Former correspondent of BBC Royal expert Peter Hunt said the mishandling of the photos was “harmful to the royal family”.

“They know any photo Kate posts will get a lot of interest,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Their challenge is that the next time people post an update on their health, they will now wonder if they can be trusted and trusted.”

The royal family has come under particular scrutiny because King Charles III has also had to cancel public engagements while undergoing treatment for unspecified cancer. Although he has been photographed walking to church and meeting privately with government officials and dignitaries, the monarch has canceled all public engagements.

Charles' relative candor about his diagnosis is a fresh departure for the usually secretive royal family. But it was overshadowed by public interest in Kate. In the absence of clear information, conspiracy theories have rushed in to fill the void.

The Mother's Day photo follows social media rumors about what has happened since Kate left the hospital on Jan. 29 after two weeks in the hospital for scheduled surgery. The princess has not been seen in public since Christmas.

Kate underwent surgery on January 16th and her condition and the reason for the surgery have not been disclosed. Kensington Palace said it was not related to cancer.

The palace initially said only significant updates would be offered and the princess would not return to royal duties before Easter on March 31 this year. Subsequently, he issued a statement last month that he was fine.

Later, state advisers told the press the sun: “We have seen the madness of social networks and that is not going to change our strategy. “There is a lot on social media, but the Princess has a right to privacy and asks the public to respect that.”

Further questions were raised last week after the British military announced hastily that Kate would attend June's flag parade without consulting palace officials.

It is palace officials, not government departments, who announce attendance at royal events. Kensington Palace has not confirmed any public events Kate has planned, and the military has since removed any mention of her visit.

William, Queen Camilla and members of the royal family attended the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on Monday. Neither Kate nor the king were in the crowd, which attracted dozens of anti-monarchy protesters with signs reading “Down with the Crown”.

William was to give a speech at an event for the Earthshot Prize, an environmental competition he founded.

Senior public relations consultant Mark Borkowski said the photo debacle exposed a wider public relations problem for the monarchy.

“There doesn't seem to be joint strategic thinking within the royal family at the moment, which leads to these complexities of a very difficult organization to manage in terms of public relations,” he said.

“I think they rose to the challenge by presenting the statement as an explanation,” he said of Kate's apology. “With all the conspiracy theories out there, the question is whether people believe it. I'm not sure they do.
