Social Security is launching new tools to help seniors retire

Social Security is the most important benefit for many people in retirement. As people get older, capabilities diminish and many administrative aspects of their payments may be hidden or unknown. In its desire to provide better service, The Social Security Administration (SSA) has launched a new audio counseling tool for all of its beneficiaries.

At the end of May, the department presented its new audio series SSA Talks. podcast Seeks to provide important information to beneficiaries of the Agency’s various programsSuch as Social Security retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Social Security Disability (SSDI).

In the first 17-minute episode, Acting Commissioner Kilolo Kijakaze and Janet Walker, Associate Commissioner for Human Resources Operational Services, discuss how the Department’s new staffing initiative will help in Improve customer service.

“Last year, we reached our lowest headcount in 25 years. In the past decade, eight million more people began receiving Social Security benefits, while budget levels limited our ability to hire,” management said in a fact sheet. Last year, Social Security employees assisted nearly 13 million field office visitors, answered about 69 million phone calls, completed about 10 million benefit claims, and the SSA issued about 16 million new or replacement Social Security cards, depending on the commissioner.
