The activities of the fourth generation of the Science League begin in IPICYT – San Luis Code – an online newspaper

With the aim of providing secondary education students belonging to the State of San Luis Potosi with the opportunity to learn about the activities carried out by the Research Center, the activities of the fourth generation of the Association of Sciences have started, an awareness-raising process in which young people exercise the opportunity to generate new knowledge through experiments, laboratory practices and scientific talks by researchers and students Potosi Institute for Scientific and Technological Research (IPICYT).

The activities, organized by students who are part of the Scholarly Publishing Prismatic Group, are scheduled in six sessions on Saturday and started on 3 June to end on 8 July; All of them are within IPICYT facilities. Each session will be mentored by researchers and graduate students who will share their experiences and knowledge.

At the end of the opening of the Science League 2023, Dr. Luis Salazar Olivo, General Director of IPICYT, indicated that this is a very important activity for the entire institute community. “This is probably the first time a high school student has had access to a research lab where work is being done internationally, with ground-breaking scientific ideas, and cutting-edge equipment. An advantage is that he’s doing it with someone he can see as a partner, not as a teacher or tutor, But as a more experienced partner, but still a boy in his age group. This will definitely give them more confidence and make them see that science is not a strange thing and not a difficult thing either. Science is an activity like any other, a job like any other. But with the advantage that it allows us better understanding and, above all, its use.

In addition, Dr. Salazar stressed that this activity is an act of dissemination and dissemination of scientific knowledge promoted by the Institute, but above all, and this is what is really important, – also stressed the researcher of the Department of Molecular Biology – born of the initiative of our students. “This is very interesting for us, as it allows us to see that our students not only have great scientific and technical ability, but also have a strong social commitment.”

For her part, the coordinator of the Prismatic Publishing Group, M. en C. Karla Rubí Hernández Martínez, indicated that La Liga de la Ciencia is a research summer in which 20 students meet between the first and fifth semesters of high school. “Boys have the opportunity to conduct experiments, activities and listen to lectures from the five departments of the institute’s graduate program. They also have the opportunity to make new relationships, and we even understand the dynamics along with the staff, so all activities are clear and fun.”

This event is organized only by IPICYT master’s and doctoral students. It takes place every year, and this time in 2023, we have a science league, the fourth generation, last year we had a special edition, so there were a total of 5 science leagues.

As a doctoral student from the Department of Applied Geosciences said: “All the experience that boys can get, they take it straight to their conscience and home. They discuss it with their parents and then they can decide which profession to study. That is why we call them between the first and fifth semesters of high school, because they In the sixth semester they already have a defined profession. What we want is to awaken, motivate and enhance this passion for science; with this, we fulfill our mission as a scientific publishing group.
