An investment of €47,500, co-financed by the Autonomous Community and the European FEDER Funds, will allow the adaptation of an area in the vicinity of ‘El Semolilla’, in Abanilla, to build a view in place of community importance (SCI) of the Chicamo River. The Secretary General of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Environment and Emergencies, Víctor Martínez, and the city’s mayor, José Antonio Blasco, visited the works today.

“In this way, we offer visitors a comprehensive view of this protected space, while respecting its biodiversity, as well as a fun and educational area that allows enjoyment from the outside without altering the values that make this place unique,” Victor Martinez emphasized.

The works consist of the construction of a viewpoint with views of the Chícamo and the Sierra de Abanilla, with several concrete masonry benches, a wooden fence in front and an interpretive sign of the observable landscape and environmental values. Close to the viewpoint, an area will be set up as a picnic area, where several tables and a path for people with limited mobility will be built to give access to both places.

The actions will be completed with revegetation of the environment with typical salt marsh types and representation of existing habitats, management of area normalization and soil protection. Two wooded areas consisting of a garden and a palm grove will also be formed, and signage will be installed and a visible vegetation barrier will be created along the inner perimeter of the plot.
