Many of us in the science, technology and higher education sector believe that our country is going through a very worrying situation, because despite the promises and commitments of the government, the truth is that the formation of [email protected] Mexicans and scientific production, they are going through a very important crisis, through the process of disengagement and instability”, exclusively, Lorena Ruano, researcher and professor at CIDE, when announcing the Forum on Science and Higher Education in Mexico: Moment Critical, What will happen today in the Senate of the Republic .
“This crisis is manifesting itself in a very diverse way, let me mention a few elements: institutional wear and tear, legal uncertainty, budget cuts and, above all, a policy of stigmatization and contempt towards the sector. Worse, we believe that the Conacyt authorities and the federal government themselves have closed the doors for dialogue. with the academic community; while conflicts with various actors and institutions that make up the sector are deepening: researchers, professors, public research centers, universities and higher education institutions,” said Lorena Ruano, Senior Research Professor in the Department of International Studies at CIDE.
“The list of grievances is quite extensive, in fact, we already had a forum on March 2 in the House of Representatives, where we just reviewed all the problems that exist, from research to student movements, through scholarships, budget problems, we are at a critical moment, and it is necessary to have a discussion And, above all, speaking with legislators, now that the proposal to reform science and technology law is close to you, and for this reason we are putting together this forum, I think it is very important to show the conditions that are currently eroding university activity, affecting scientific work and also freedom academy of our country,” concluded the international researcher.
The forum is divided into four points: questionable autonomy, university autonomy, academic freedom, the introduction of public research centers, the errors of current science and technology policy, the crisis of training programs, and the fragility of scientific work.
the border. COFAA-IPN
Experience hard times
Cofaa was set up to raise funds from IPN schools, to equip schools, maintain workshops and laboratories, and provide scholarships and financial support to students and researchers, which is part of the reason for being. Every mid- and high-level call registration or acceptance has Coffaa account numbers for making deposits. However, Javier Tapia Santoyo, Secretary of the IPN Administration, instructed that everything be deposited in the Polytechnic (civil association) and not in Cofaa, which is identified in its statute as an IPN-supporting organization. So far Cofaa does not even have to pay salaries, scholarships and much less for maintenance, workshop and laboratory equipment. It is clear that the intention is for the funds to go to the Polytechnic, so why is it not auditable, and who will benefit from it? Will the internal controller know that?
