The cultural space Serrería Belga brings Belgrade and Madrid closer together through the exhibition “Applied Nostalgia” – Diario del Ayuntamiento de Madrid

Serbian photographer Zoran Ilić Kujundžić captures the essence of Madrid while Spanish photographer Virgilio Hernando Vagno does the same with Belgrade, showing the similarities, inspiring places and people that remind them of their countries’ capitals.

A total of 40 photographs tour these two cities as part of a project promoted by the Ministry for European Integration of the Republic of Serbia on the occasion of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union

What do Belgrade and Madrid have in common? This is the proposal that arrives from 11 to 29 November in the cultural space Serrería Belga, a center based on the field of culture, tourism and sports, with the exhibition applied nostalgia, A photography project promoted by the Ministry of European Integration of the Republic of Serbia and arriving in Madrid on the occasion of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

A total of 40 images will present a photographic tour of these two cities in which the Serbian photographer Zoran Ilić Kujundžić captures the essence of Madrid, and the Spaniard Virgilio Hernando Faño does the same with Belgrade, looking for similarities, inspiring places, sights and people who inspire them. They remember the capitals of their countries, always with a look of “nostalgia.” “.

The 20 shots of each city will allow the visitor to compare existing similarities, showing some of its monuments, streets, corners, people and traditions, with the added value that the two photographers did not know each other and had never shared what they have in common. They were going to film.

Zoran Ilić Kujundžić has worked as a photographer for various newspapers such as Politika, Allo or Blick and for news agencies such as AFP and Reuters. Among his awards is the Beogradski Pobednik Award for his contribution to photography in journalism.

Meanwhile, Virgilio Hernando Faño, who prefers “street photography,” has received numerous national and international awards, including from the Royal Photographic Society, the Spanish Photographic Federation, and the Photographic Society of America.

Long term project

The project Applied nostalgia It was born in 2007 under the auspices of the Ministry of European Integration of the Republic of Serbia with the aim of promoting cultural exchange, promoting European values ​​and cooperation between Serbia and EU Member States.

In this way, a Serbian photographer visits the capital of the country that holds the presidency of the European Council, while another author from the country that holds the presidency of the European Union tours Belgrade to photograph scenes that remind him of his country’s capital.

So far, this project has been implemented in 19 countries, and it is the second time it has reached Spain. In 2010, the year Spain also assumed the presidency of the Council of the European Union, Madrid hosted for the first time.
