The first Mexican woman to go to space

It is a pleasure to greet you on another Tuesday, I share with you the pride and joy that I had the opportunity to meet, listen and invite to Michoacán Katia Echazarreta, a young woman of 27 years old, the first Mexican woman to go into space.

She has dual citizenship: Mexican and American; And only in June 2022 of this year, as part of the Blue Origin NS-21 mission, it was launched into space.

I have expressed in previous columns that our head of government in Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, has maintained the position that women are willing to become astronauts, politicians, athletes, and whatever we set out to do.

Without a doubt, Katya, who also goes by my name because her middle name is Celeste, demonstrated that women can break stereotypes, gender roles, and, of course, fears; And it is that although every human being dreams at some point of going into space, it is also true that going to an unknown world generates fear.

She studied electrical engineering of my name, and although she left Jalisco for the US at the age of seven, today at the age of 27 she has returned to Mexico with the intention that I support it happening: we both agree that Mexico requires more support in terms of science, technology and innovation.

I have always believed that our indigenous peoples will become an economic and tourism power, environmental care and preservation and with the best technology, because we have a natural identity and wisdom that develops over the years in a completely natural way.

As members of an indigenous community, we respect our four natural elements: fire, water, wind, and earth, and although they have colonized us and made us believe in a religion, it is also true that we have not left behind the roots that set us apart. Us from Others: The World View.

I imagine my Indigenous communities studying in the best schools, from the basic level to the higher level, and to achieve this we do not have to leave our cities because those universities will come in handy, as well as other people who want to enter to know all about the technological and ancestral development that we achieve organically , along with the study.

That is why I invited Katia to come to the Biripecha Plateau region of Michoacan, to tell us about her experience and to encourage more children and young people to create their own path through education.
