SEATTLE — JP Crawford and Teoscar Hernandez had doubles as part of a five-run seventh inning, and the Seattle Mariners rallied to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-8 on Saturday.
Once again, the Blue Jays and Mariners competed in a contest of summersaults, key hits and great moments that thrilled the crowd, almost evenly split between the two teams.
The teams combined to hit seven home runs. Each side had three homer innings.
Seattle led 3-0, Toronto led 5-3, 7-4 before the Mariners finally took control of the game with their big drive in the seventh inning.
Toronto made the game interesting in the ninth inning with Justin Doba’s three-hit home run, including an RBI single by Kevin Biggio to make it 9-8. Doba forced Kevin Kiermaier to lob and retired George Springer with a grounder for his second save.
Isaiah Campbell (1-0) earned the win. Lost to Nate Pearson (5-2).
For the Blue Jays, Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr. scored two runs and drove in a run in a 5-2 victory. Mexico’s Alejandro Kirk is 5-4.
For the Mariners, Dominican Julio Rodriguez went 3-1 with two runs scored and one RBI and Hernandez went 4-1 with two RBIs. Venezuela Eugenio Suarez 4-0.
