The Southern countries will have a science, technology and innovation day

The countries participating in the G77 Summit and China agreed here today to declare September 16 as the South Science, Technology and Innovation Day.

In the closing declaration of the meeting, members also decided to request the President of the General Assembly to convene, in the context of the eightieth session of the United Nations General Assembly, a high-level meeting on science, technology and innovation for development. .

They announced that this event will focus in particular on the measures that must be adopted to meet the needs of developing countries in these areas.

Likewise, members of the cluster urged United Nations committees, organizations, funds and programs to make additional efforts to support developing countries in strengthening institutional frameworks and public policies related to science, technology and innovation.

They also ratified their commitment to implementing at the national and international levels the specific measures contained in the final declaration of this summit.

In the text, they also expressed their gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Cuba, Chair of the Group of 77 and China, for organizing and developing the meeting.

The document expresses confidence that it will determine the course of action in these times of enormous challenges and allow progress towards achieving legitimate development aspirations.
