BOSTON – Giancarlo Stondon will see security action this week for the first time since 2019.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Stanton could start on the left field on Saturday. Game 1 of the 2019 U.S. League Championship Series against the Astros saw Gunner last in action on the outfield.
“This is something we’ve been talking about for the last few weeks, picking a day here,” Boone said.
The Yankees have been reluctant to let Stanton play on the outfield because of the perception that it could increase his risk of injury. But Boone pointed out that the small space he had to patrol in front of the Green Monster affected his decision. For similar reasons the Yankees believe that Stanton can sometimes patrol the right field at Yankee Stadium.
Stanton has revealed that he wants to play outfield during the upcoming series against the Marlins in Miami during the Interleak series in Philadelphia in June.
“When we play another series at a national league ground, [podemos] We get it, ”Boone said. “If it works, especially Aaron [Judge] Come back, one day I may take a few moments at home in the right field to use the judge as a PD. We hope this is something we can do even once as an alternative. “
