They are extending the deadline to allow vehicles assembled from parts and pieces in Cuba

Cuba announced the extension of the deadline for permits for vehicles built in parts and pieces, known as “requimbilis.” The process began in September 2021 with Resolution 200, according to the Ministry of Transport (MITRANS).The national commission MININT-MITRANS announced that the approval process will end on December 31, 2023.

However, “this extends to the legalization and issuance of appropriate license plates to all vehicles processed by the provinces.”

The Official information MITRANS also notes that “in cases of vehicles that are not registered or are not properly processed for different reasons, an assessment is carried out”. The results will be declared in due course,” he said.

The said Ministry reminds interested parties to keep in touch with the processing offices of the Provincial Transport Directorates. It is necessary to attend when they are summoned.

False rumours

Rumors have been swirling for weeks about the terms of the popular “requimbilis” in Cuba.

Even the provincial authorities understood that from January 1, an armed driver would be prohibited from traveling the streets of the island.

However, MITRANS renewed its provision and allowed the extension and, in turn, the modification of said Resolution 200.

In March 2022, it was revealed that Cuba will add more than 100,000 vehicles in parts and pieces to the vehicle fleet in circulation in the country.

At the time, the Secretary of the National Road Safety Commission, Reynaldo Becerra Acosta, made statements on the matter.

“This will affect the traffic cycle and road safety, increasing congestion and the vulnerability of these routes.”

MITRANS regulations allow each owner to allow only one vehicle. They can be motor, trailers and semi-trailers after being approved by a panel of experts.

Authorized ones began legal distribution on August 4, 2021.
