Cuban users have reported a new scam that's taking off on the island through social networks.

As they explain, scammers use a fake $100 bill to pay for a purchase they've made.

A victim of fraud reported it.

“This woman you see in the picture is a fraudster. She went to the cafeteria asking for many items with a bill of more than 10,000 pesos and paid a fake US$100 bill,” he said.

“As you can see in the picture, she's saying it's not a lie, she's acting like she's looking for someone and she's missing,” said the person in the public Facebook group “Crime Condemnation in Cuba.”

Last March, the Ministry of Interior (MININT) arrested a couple who were defrauding Cubans in Sancti Spiritus by selling counterfeit US dollars through the island's classifieds portal Revolico.

Both are residents of the municipality of Sancti Spiritus. According to a report in the local official newspaper this Tuesday, the woman wore a doctor's coat to attend meetings with buyers, which helped her gain their trust.
