With the brilliant presentation “The World of Albert and Stephen” by physicist, theorist and promoter of science, José Daniel Edelstein, the 2023 Science Conference of the Autonomous State University of Mexico (UAEMéx) kicked off, an event presided over by Minister of Research and Advanced Studies Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado.
In the “Gustavo Baz Prada” room of the Rectory Building, Zarza Delgado said that bringing scientific and technological developments closer to society in a way that is accessible and understandable to an audience that is not necessarily specialized in the subject matter is a particularly relevant task when she is trying to interest children and young people so that they follow the path of science.
In this sense, he indicated that the Science Conference 2023 is an activity that allows UAEMéx to carry out the function of bringing science closer and disseminating it, between the university community and the general population.
“The Autonomous State University of Mexico promotes, through the Secretariat of Research and Advanced Studies, spaces for scientific publication with a human dimension. For this reason, we are pleased to offer these scientific conferences,” he said.
In the meantime, Edelstein has taken a historical tour on the significance of the contributions of various scientists and theorists of the 20th and 21st centuries such as Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking to the knowledge of the origin of the universe and the existence and importance of black holes.
Likewise, the Argentine theorist asserted that the dissemination of science is an act that democratizes knowledge and allows us to understand the world we live in and make decisions from this perspective.
Edelstein is a theoretical physicist, with a PhD from the University of La Plata, where he taught. He has done some postdoctoral stints at the Universities of Compostela, Harvard and the Higher Technical Institute of Lisboa. He is currently a professor in the Department of Particle Physics at the University of Compostela.
Eldstein, who was close to the theorist Stephen Hawking, is also a pioneer of science and has published more than fifty scientific articles in major international scientific journals.
The keynote address was attended by the Director of Internationalization at the General Secretariat for Research and Advanced Studies in the United Arab Emirates, Mariana Ortiz Reynoso, and the researcher in the College of Science, Susana Valdes Alvarado, in addition to the researchers and the university’s student community. .
