Last Thursday, December 16, the highest house of studies witnessed the protest and graduation performance of the first three graduates of the data science career. Race number 126 of 131 of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) took a protest from the first graduates in the auditorium of the Institute for Research in Applied Mathematics and Systems (IIMAS).
In the company of their friends and family, students José de Jesús Tapia López, Enrique David Guzman Ramírez and Dante Bermúdez Marbán they attended the ceremony with the pertinent sanitary measures. The oath was carried out before the coordinator of said race, Maria del Pilar Angeles and the director of the IIMAS, Ramses Humberto Mena Chávez.
In addition to being the first students to graduate from the Data Science career, the students they graduated through the modality of “total credits and high academic level”. Despite the difficulty of resuming classes in person, the director of the IIMAS affirmed that despite the contingencies that arise for the University, the UNAM does not stop.
The Data Sciences career has been one of the last to be opened at UNAM, it was approved by the University Council, on March 27, 2019. Likewise, the Nutrition and Tourism and Sustainable Development careers have been the last to have opened study plans within the University.
Data Sciences, Cinematography and International Business are some of those that have indirect entry, implying that the student must enter a career of origin before being able to apply to these. In the case of Data Science, the applicant may choose between any of the following study options that are taught at UNAM:
In addition to this prerequisite, the applicant must have completed and fully accredited 4 of the semesters of their original career, in addition to having skills for reading comprehension, analysis, synthesis, knowledge of basic mathematics and computing.
Data Science is a career designed to solve current and future information needs. Its main task is to clean, select and prepare data to be able to analyze, describe and predict future behaviors or knowledge in mathematical decision making. These can be used in business, government and science.
They are also capable of analyzing, evaluating and communicating massive amounts of data of any type, this under ethical and responsible axes for the resolution of complex problems in social, scientific and technological sectors.
With the pandemic remaining in force in the contagion of populations worldwide, the UNAM has also urged that its students be vaccinated against the disease. The need to return to classes in person has made the house of studies also invite the students who are lagging behind to be vaccinated so that they can return to classes sooner and safer.
The institution assured that this day is “particularly relevant”, in the understanding that, with it, the community would be protected from more than 120 thousand students belonging to the level of upper secondary education.
