The story of the two new rooms explains how to face the future of the Urgell channels
The Urgell Canals Cultural Space (ECCU) in Mollerussa opened on Saturday the new museum discourse of two exhibition rooms located on the ground floor. It is an immersive proposal that values the heritage, culture, landscape and population of the lands irrigated by the Urgell canals, and reveals the current and future project of this hydraulic infrastructure. With this opening, ECCU began celebrating its 20th anniversary, for which the facility intends to exceed 3,000 visitors.
An account of the two new rooms explains how to face the future of Urgell’s canals, after making the round starting from the date of the late nineteenth century with the construction of the infrastructure in the first room. The visit ends in the “People’s Room”, where the protagonists of the channel are given a voice through a show, each played by actors from the area, who explain their role in the infrastructure, like a hologram.
This initiative is included in the Axis 6 project “Landscape of Ponente” of the Economic Promotion Board of the Provincial Council of Lleida and is supported by the Feder Catalunya Funds.
The space, located on the ground floor of the Casa Canal, is located in the Irrigation General Community of Urgell Canals (CGRCU), and in 2022 received around 3,000 visitors. Now, with the new reform, this number will be doubled.
The inauguration was made by the President of the Regional Council, Joan Talarn, who made the visit accompanied by the President of the CGRCU, Amadeo Ros. Afterwards, a visit to the companies, collaborators and other groups was organized, accompanied by the Director of the Canales de Urgell Foundation, Maribel Pedrol.
In addition, the CGRCU Director, Xavier Díaz, other members of the Community Board and chairmen of the Regional Councils of Pla d’Urgell, Urgell, Segrià, La Noguera and Garrigues also attended the work.
