NEW YORK — Complete list of teams National League and American League ESPN announced Sunday who will play in the 2023 All-Star Game.
Several additions were made to the roster on Tuesday: Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodriguez and right-hander Jorge Kirby, Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Vander Franco and Houston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker were named to the AL All-Star roster Tuesday in lieu of injuries. And Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bettner was selected to the National League team.
Rodriguez replaced Houston outfielder Yordon Alvarez; Kirby will fill in for Tampa Bay lefty Shane McClanahan; And Franco will fill in for Yankees slugger Aaron Judge. Tucker fills in for Angels center fielder Mike Trout in his role.
Bedner replaces Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw.
Rodriguez, Tucker and Bettner will be part of their second All-Star game, while Kirby will be participating for the first time.
Franco, a first-time All-Star, was benched for two games last month because of his response to a sticky situation in which he believed he was not selected for the game.
“At first I thought it might be because of the behaviour, which I believed was the reason why I wasn’t named, but I hold my head high and thank God,” he said.
