Music producer Marcos Javier Rizó Beltran (Macbell) composed the music Speech in English by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-CanelThe questionable pronunciation went viral within hours.
A night without sleep and hours in front of the computer turned into the final musical production of a young Cuban called “Sain Bisen Ande Granadins,” a video about how good a woman’s life was a few months ago that went viral. In Mariano.
Cyber Cuba We spoke with MacBell to find out how he chooses a video like this and transforms it into a musical work that has garnered much attention and critiques the Cuban government with a lighthearted humor and contemporary symbolism.
Since when did you realize that using internet videos and putting music was a good way to mock the Cuban government?
I’m not kidding them, they’re the only ones kidding. Trying to express joy in the face of a painful reality. It all started with the theme “Marianao is delicious”., which is incidentally my first title. Since then, I have been using the power of music to send joy to people.
What is the process of choosing a rhythm or how is the musical theme you’re going to create sounding?
The creative process is all mental, I play the video many times until I get the right idea and it brings it to reality.
Other music memes (as you may call them) use internet videos to go viral, but yours turns out to be a penchant for political satire. Think it’s a way to reach people directly?
They also make music with viral videos like me, but it goes without saying that the people who have the most reach in my country are related to politicians.
Think Díaz-Canel is a relic?
It amazes me how easy it is to become a viral meme. It’s a gift.
You recently left Cuba and are still in the process of integrating like a thermoelectric plant. What is your opinion of the young people staying there? Do you really want a change?
A change is necessary, but 180 degrees. I know what it’s like to live in Cuba, it’s like having no dreams or goals. I worry about everyone in Cuba, and the first day I left and saw what the world was like, the first thing I thought was: They have to get out of there.
