Zach Neto homers as the Angels beat the Mariners twice

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Rookie Zach Neto had two home runs in his first game, Shohei Ohtani followed up his three-hit streak in June, and the Los Angeles Angels cruised to a 9-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.

Matt Theis drove in three runs and Taylor Ward also homered for the Angels, who have won six of seven games.

Seattle’s Theoscar Hernandez had three hits, including a two-run homer in the fourth. Ty France also had three hits and Mike Ford hit a solo shot in the fifth for the Mariners, who completed a 2-6 road trip.

Griffin Canning (5-2) won for the third time with four strikeouts over five innings.

Neto, the 13th pick in last year’s amateur draft, hit two solo home runs. Logan Gilbert’s (4-4) liner over the left-center fence in the second extended the Angels’ lead to 3-0. He made it 8-4 in the eighth.

Ohtani had three hits for the second time in three games and extended his hitting streak to eight games. He is batting .381 in June, including a 9-for-23 hitting streak in six home games.

For the Mariners, Dominican Descar Hernandez went 4-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Panamanian Jose Caballero is 4-1. Venezuela’s Eugenio Suarez thrashed RBI 3-0.
